Dear FGSD Families,
I hope you all enjoyed some time off for spring break and the transition back to school was smooth. The weather has definitely been springy, and I for one welcome the sunshine and blossoms but apologize for those who have bad allergies.
Things continue to be trending downward with COVID cases in Washington County and in our district. As of today, we had only three students and two staff members who are out due to COVID. This is much different than what we had in January with a high of 235 students and 84 staff out. While things are relatively calm, I am going to transition to communicating two times a month instead of every week. If it becomes necessary to communicate more frequently, we can always go back to a weekly schedule.
Today I want to make you aware of some wonderful opportunities coming up in April:
FGHS Performing Arts Department is performing “Mamma Mia!” beginning tomorrow. Performances are set for April 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th at 7:00 pm and April 3rd and 9th at 2:00 pm.Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for seniors and students and can be purchase online at https://fghstheatre.booktix.com/ Performances take place in the Ellen Stevens Auditorium located at 1401 Nichols Lane in Forest Grove.
The FGHS Plant Sale is back in full swing this year. The dates are April 28-30 and May 5-7 (10 am - 5 pm). 
Kindergarten Roundup/Registration will return to in-person from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The dates and times are listed below:

- Fern Hill: April 25
- Echo Shaw April: 26
- Cornelius: April 27
- Harvey Clarke: April 28

Important Information
CREATE Alternative Learning Program
CREATE is a non-profit organization that contracts with the district to deliver academic interventions for students who are referred to the program from the district. This organization is closing their doors. As a result, the students attending this program will return to the district beginning on March 28th, where the district will assume intervention responsibilities.
8th Grade Family Night
Current 8th grade students and families are invited to join us on April 6 (5:30pm - 8:00pm) at Forest Grove High School. You will have the opportunity to meet teachers, attend a few short presentations, get info on courses and clubs and there will be treats.
COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities
In cooperation with Washington County Health, the district will be hosting two COVID-19 vaccine opportunities in April. One at Tom McCall on April 2nd from 12-7 the other at the FGHS on April 15th from 3-7.

Second Home
Second Home connects volunteer host homes with unaccompanied high school students experiencing homelessness. By ensuring that the students have stable housing and ongoing support, they can focus on completing their secondary education and realize their full potential. Through recruiting volunteer home providers Second Home matches students on track to graduate high school with housing and support to meet their goals. Second Home is also available to provide support to people who are already housing unaccompanied homeless youth.
At any given moment there are at least 10 students in FGHS identified as unaccompanied, the reported numbers ranging from 5-13 depending on the month. We have one host home in Forest Grove that already has a young person successfully living there. To learn more about or participate in the program please visit the Second Home website.

Espero que todos hayan disfrutado de un tiempo libre durante las vacaciones de primavera y que la transición de regreso a la escuela haya sido fluida. Definitivamente, el clima ha sido primaveral y, por mi parte, agradezco la luz del sol y las flores, pero me disculpo por aquellos que tienen alergias graves.

El Departamento de Artes Escénicas de FGHS está presentando “Mamma Mia!” a partir de mañana. Información importante
CREATE es una organización sin fines de lucro que tiene un contrato con el distrito para brindar intervenciones académicas a los estudiantes que son referidos al programa por el distrito. Esta organización está cerrando sus puertas. Como resultado, los estudiantes que asisten a este programa regresarán al distrito a partir del 28 de marzo, donde el distrito asumirá las responsabilidades de intervención.
Noche familiar de octavo grado
