Dear FGSD Families,
This week teachers and staff have officially returned to their buildings in full preparation mode. They are working extremely hard to prepare for the beginning of school on September 14th. Together as building teams, they are working to establish new ways for engaging students in rigorous, engaging and fun ways through our new digital platforms. Next week, they will continue this preparation in an effort to make the transition into Comprehensive Distance Learning as smooth as possible. Teachers and staff will continue reaching out to students and families over the phone and email.
We will have more information and resources for you next week that will help you familiarize yourselves with the new technology that students will be using this year. Below you can find other important information:
Technology/Device Distribution
In preparation for the 20-21 school year and CDL, the district is providing the opportunity for parents to request a computer and/or internet access assistance. Please fill out this request form to request a device. You will be able to pick up the device on the designated pickup/drive thru day for your student’s school. Please contact the school to learn the pickup/drive-thru schedule. If your student already has a device that was issued last year, they will continue to use the same device and there will be no need to request or pick up a device.
New learning platform
Feedback from parents and teachers has shown that there is a need for a comprehensive, district wide digital learning tool. FGSD has chosen Canvas as that tool and will be implemented starting in the fall. You can learn more about this tool through the Canvas website and can review staff presentations to the School Board and in parent Q&A sessions, on how the tool will be used on the district website.
Visiting school buildings
To ensure the safety of staff, students and the community, we strongly encourage you to limit your in-person interactions at the school buildings. If you need to meet with school principals or staff, please contact the school office to schedule a meeting. We will be conducting as many meetings as possible through Zoom video conferencing or over the phone. If you plan to attend a meeting at a building, please be prepared to wear a mask, sanitize and stay six feet apart.
Childcare
The district has partnered with Champions, a local childcare provider, who is offering full day childcare for FGSD staff and the community. If you are intere
sted in enrolling your child/children, please visit their website to enroll. The FGSD childcare sites will be at Fern Hill and Tom McCall. The approximate cost per child, per week is $238, with a discount for multiple children from a family. There are also subsidy programs for childcare with certain qualifications (see the graphic to the right). Community Opportunity
Adventures Without Limits will be hosting Adventure Wednesdays! Middle school students will have the option to spend the day outside of school hiking, paddling, and exploring. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting fall program.

Estimadas familias de FGSD,
Esta semana, los maestros y el personal han regresado oficialmente a sus edificios en modo de preparación completa. Están trabajando muy duro para prepararse para el comienzo de clases el 14 de septiembre. Distribución de tecnología / dispositivos
En preparación para el año escolar 20-21 y CDL, el distrito está brindando la oportunidad para que los padres soliciten una computadora y / o asistencia de acceso a Internet. Complete este formulario de solicitud para solicitar un dispositivo. Podrá recoger el dispositivo en el día designado para recoger / conducir para la escuela de su estudiante. Comuníquese con la escuela para conocer el horario de recogida / traslado. Si su estudiante ya tiene un dispositivo que se emitió el año pasado, continuará usando el mismo dispositivo y no habrá necesidad de solicitar o recoger un dispositivo.
Nueva plataforma de aprendizaje
Los comentarios de padres y maestros han demostrado que existe la necesidad de una herramienta de aprendizaje digital integral para todo el distrito. FGSD ha elegido Canvas como esa herramienta y se implementará a partir del otoño. Puede obtener más información sobre esta herramienta a través del sitio web de Canvas y puede revisar las presentaciones del personal a la Junta Escolar y en las sesiones de preguntas y respuestas de los padres sobre cómo se utilizará la herramienta en el sitio web del distrito.
Visitar edificios escolares
Para garantizar la seguridad del personal, los estudiantes y la comunidad, le recomendamos encarecidamente que limite sus interacciones en persona en los edificios escolares. Si necesita reunirse con los directores o el personal de la escuela, comuníquese con la oficina de la escuela para programar una reunión. Cuidado de niños
El distrito se ha asociado con Champions, un proveedor de cuidado infantil local, que ofrece cuidado infantil de día completo para el personal de FGSD y la comunidad. Si está interesado en inscribir a su hijo (a), visite su sitio web para inscribirse. Los sitios de cuidado infantil de FGSD estarán en Fern Hill y Tom McCall.
